Are You New to Social Media Marketing?

Social Media Marketing is new to a lot of people who are not entrenched in the world of Search Engine Marketing and Search Engine Optimization.

If you are new to Social Media Marketing, here is a brief description of what Social Media Marketing is:

  • Social Media Marketing – Basically, Social Media Marketing is the direct interaction between a brand (website, corporation, product, individual, etc.) and its target audience. Primarily involves utilizing user generated platforms as a direct marketing tool to reach large groups of individuals with the intention of promoting the brand. On a larger scale, Social Media Marketing involves the interlinking of several user generated platforms to increase the relevancy of the brand in the search engines as well as the general public.

Now that you have a basic idea as to what Social Media Marketing is, the question is “How do you get it to work for you?”

The fastest and easiest way to create a successful Social Media Marketing campaign is to go with what already works for you. If you are already on Facebook, Myspace, LinkedIn, Orkut, etc., then use those platforms as your foundation.

Next, thoroughly research other Social Networking Sites and get a feel of which ones will work for you. Also, research online press release services and issue news worthy press releases. Finally, link everything together and link everything to your main website, blog, etc. for optimal success.

Music Marketing Techniques

A great technique to use in music marketing is to ensure that you market your music in densely populated places that will create a quick buzz. The four places listed below are in no particular order of importance, however, if feasible utilize all of the following music marketing techniques:

  1. Your Social Media Community – Build a highly dense and concentrated social media network. By dense and concentrated, we mean a solid group of individuals that you have actually had a chance to interact and build a relationship with. These are the people who will be willing to provide that extra music marketing presence you need. Avoid the random friend adds and random posts to other people’s blogs. You want to maintain continuity and relevance; therefore, be sure that those you choose to add as friends, etc. have some of the same interests as you.
  2. Concerts and Shows – Whenever you perform, ensure that you are equipped with plenty of swag and a laptop with a wireless connection. Lets start out with the swag. You want your swag to be unique and eye catching. Try to go above and beyond your basic t-shirt and CD. If you are going to do a CD, do a business card CD, and instead of a t-shirt, do a hot mouse pad. Make sure to include web address, your main social network link and a contact number. The reason you want to have a laptop with a wireless connection is two fold, 1) To collect pertinent information about your fan base without the traditional clipboard and pencil and 2) to take merchandise orders.
  3. Public Transportation – If you are in a city with a decent public transportation system, utilize the public transportation hub in your city, i.e., central train station, bus terminal, etc. as the main source of music marketing. The public transportation hub will give you unlimited access to a variety of individuals in your city from all walks of life. Make sure to engage your public transportation audience when possible. One thing about public transportation riders is that they love music to help shorten their trips.
  4. Radio Remotes – Pick your favorite radio station (If you don’t have one, choose one) and be sure to attend every remote they have with swag in tow. Exposing fans of your favorite radio station to your music is an efficient music marketing technique that can prove to be very beneficial. Make sure any swag you pass out has a link to your music and contact information to your favorite radio station so that they can request your music if they like it. For lots of indie artists, listening to the radio station can be a living hell, however, if you choose not to listen to the radio to get information on upcoming remotes, utilize their website.

This is just a start to get many artists, bands and indie labels thinking of other ways to get your music to the general public in a more efficient manner. For more information, contact ODDulent Global Marketing

Music Marketing 101

Today we will discuss some very fundamental music marketing techniques that are intended to get artists and bands on the right track in getting exposure for their music.

  1. Good Music – There is no substitute for making good music. Therefore, the first stage in any music marketing campaign is to have good music that people can relate to. To ensure that you are able to market your music to as large of an audience as possible, attempt to make universal music that speaks to people across music genres. For some, that may be harder than it sounds, but just stop for a minute and think ODDulently (Outside the Box) and take your mind off of your block, neighborhood, yes men (Overzealous Friends and Groupies), community, state and region. Then begin to think about the world and how your music will speak to people who don’t speak your language. Basically, put some feeling into the music, something intangible that transcends humanity. Also, make sure the recordings themselves are of a high quality (mixed and mastered properly).
  2. Identify Target Market – After you make some good music, the next step in the music marketing strategy is identifying your target market. Identifying your target is not just about identifying people you want to market your music to, but identifying people who are more likely to promote your music for you. Power is definitely in the numbers; therefore, the more people you have promoting your music for you, the more people you will have who are willing to buy your music. Word of mouth is always the best form of music marketing.
  3. Reinforcement – Reinforce your music marketing message amongst your target market. In the information age, the next best thing is always a threat to your music marketing campaign. That is why it is ever so important to reinforce your creative messaging with new music, new email campaigns, new blogs, new show dates, etc. Always keep your target market on their heels waiting for your next move.
